Nuke From Orbit pitch perfect at the FinTech North Leeds Conference
James O'Sullivan, CEO & Founder, Nuke From Orbit
Date: 16th May 2025
At Nuke From Orbit, we are firmly committed to setting new standards in digital security. It’s therefore with delight that I can announce we are the winners of Pitch 360 North 2025! Held at the FinTech North Leeds Conference, the competition saw some of the most innovative minds in FinTech gather to showcase their groundbreaking ideas.
Seeing our name called as the winner was incredibly rewarding. The competition had five of us pitching, each representing unique solutions positioned to significantly advance financial technology. The judges scored us across four categories: the problem, the solution, traction, and team. And as far as I can tell, we did well across all four.
The experience of standing on stage, connecting with the audience, and hitting the exact time mark for the pitch (two minutes and 58 seconds!) was intensely rewarding. And during the Q&A session, it was great to address our competitor landscape. Truthfully, our product doesn’t have a like-for-like competitor. And if it did, I’d probably shut up shop and buy their product. Existing solutions in the market don’t fully comprehend the nuances of mobile security vulnerabilities that our product seamlessly addresses.
Unusually, we believe that our biggest competitor isn’t another product but apathy, which makes it even more crucial to educate users on the potential pitfalls of relying solely on traditional security methods.
Reflections and key learnings
Reflecting on the experience, I learned the importance of continually improving the delivery of our message, and happy coincidences. I accidentally left my phone on the lectern and had to go back and retrieve it. When your product aims to address phone theft, it reminds me of the impact of authenticity and humour in communication, even if you’ve only three minutes to get your message across. Perhaps ‘accidentally-on-purpose’ leaving my phone on stage is a gimmick I can utilise in future speaking engagements!
Moreover, the insights from the Leeds conference have shaped my understanding of the evolving fintech landscape. Engaging with industry leaders and potential collaborators provided invaluable perspectives. The conference affirmed the significance of partnerships, while the looming threat of deepfakes is poised to redefine security protocols worldwide.
Validation is a stepping stone, not a destination
Winning awards like this is nice because it validates your work. But it’s a stepping stone to further growth and innovation. It makes you constantly re-evaluate what’s working and how the product fits in the wider ecosystem. We are poised to integrate the feedback gained and refine our product offering, ensuring that our solutions cater to the real-world challenges of mobile security. As we continue to grow, we’re exploring options to enhance our expertise, particularly in security, which remains a cornerstone of our mission.
I am grateful to the event organisers and everyone who has supported Nuke From Orbit on this incredible journey. Moving forward, we remain steadfast in delivering groundbreaking security solutions that safeguard connectivity in the face of growing threats.
